What We Carry, 2026

What We Carry is a series of oil paintings rooted in memories of growing up in Seoul. Through familiar places, family relationships, and everyday rituals, the paintings explore memory as something continually revisited and reshaped rather than preserved. Apartment windows, neighborhood landscapes, gardens, Catholic traditions, and quiet moments shared with my mother become vessels through which the past acquires new meaning over time. Rather than reconstructing specific events, the series reflects on how ordinary experiences continue to shape our understanding of family, identity, and belonging.

The Cold I Carried, Oil on wood panel, 36 x 24 in

The painting explores memory as something continually revisited and reshaped, where ordinary moments become inseparable from the places, relationships, and quiet experiences that formed them.
